Solar is growing in Connecticut! The US Solar Market Insight 2014 Year In Review was recently released by SEIA and GreenTech Media and Connecticut was ranked 16th in the nation in installed solar capacity for 2014!
Last year, Connecticut added 45MW of solar capacity. A large number of commercial solar projects lead to this significant increase. 7 MW of the newly installed solar is from utility scale projects and 21 MW is from commercial projects.
Thanks to community-wide marketing efforts like Solarize CT, residential solar has grown immensely as well, providing 17 MW of the added solar capacity in 2014.
“To put the state’s solar growth in some context, the 119 MW of solar PV installed today in Connecticut is nearly as much as the entire country had installed by 2004. And frankly, the state is just scratching the surface of its enormous potential,” said Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).
Our own company is proof of these increasing solar numbers. With longer days of sunshine ahead, Sunlight Solar is already ramping up 2015 with over 200kW contracted so far in Connecticut. We will be out and about at local events and are planning some solar open houses, so be sure to check our events page if you would like to meet us and learn more about how you can harness the power of the sun!
