Federal Tax Incentive
As of January 1, 2009, all solar electric and solar thermal installations are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit on the net cost of your system. Combined with the MassTech rebate, this new tax incentive can help you take up to 65% off the cost of your system.
Commonwealth Solar II Rebate Program
Commonwealth Solar is a program that launched in January 2008 by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and provides rebates for the installation of grid-tied PV systems. Rebates are available to electricity customers served by the following MA electric utilities: Fitchburg Gas & Electric Light (Unitil), National Grid, NSTAR, Western Massachusetts Electric, and a select number of municipal lighting plant utilities.
Rebate Calculation
The rebate is based on the system size and other characteristics of the project. Residential rebates are available for the first 5 kW of residential PV projects, with no size cap of the project. The maximum rebate available is $1.70 per watt.
Rebates are given out on a first-come first-serve basis, so it is recommended to act quickly before the funds run out. A free site evaluation is the best way to find out how much a system would cost you and how much you can save with these rebates and other incentives.
