Go Solar, Get Paid!

Go Solar and Get Paid!

It’s a great time to go solar in Colorado! Not only can you utilize the federal tax credit to reduce your total cost of going solar by 30% but you can also get paid from your utility company every month you over produce or get an upfront rebate! Depending on your utility company you can qualify for a production – based incentive which pays you every month that your system over produces or you can get an upfront rebate dependent on the size of the system you install! Get started by filling out the form below or give us a call at 719-663-0300!

How It Works

Production – Based Incentive

Production Based Incentives (PBI) are based on the amount of solar electricity generated by the system. Based on a PBI, every kWh of excess usage is credited to your account.

Black Hills Energy – $.05 per kWh

  • This applies to residential solar systems that are 10 kW or less in total size.
  • Once your solar installation is complete, Black Hills Energy will replace your old utility meter with a Net-Meter. This will report back how much solar energy you’re over producing.
  • Every kilowatt per hour that you over produce is automatically credited to your electric bill at the end of the month.
  • Click here for more details regarding the Black Hills Energy program.

Xcel Energy – $.005 per kWh produced

  • This applies to residential solar system that are less than 25 kW in total size.
  • Once your solar installation is complete, Black Hills Energy will replace your old utility meter with a Net-Meter. This will report back how much solar energy you’re over producing.
  • You can choose to either credit the excess energy to your bill OR save it, and carry it over to the next month!

Upfront Rebate

Upfront rebates are calculated using the total AC watt size of your system multiplied by a rebate rate. You get paid a lump sum of this amount. The rebate rate depends on the utility company.

Colorado Springs Utilities – $.25 x total AC watts

So for a system sized 4000 AC watts (4 kW system), you receive a lump sum of around $1000 as your utility rebate. More details about the Colorado Springs Utility upfront rebate can be found here.

La Plata Electric Association – $16 per kW

So for a system sized 4000 AC watts (4 kW system), you receive a lump sum of around $64 as your utility rebate. More details about the La Plata Electric Association upfront rebate can be found here
