Work with Charitable Home Builders
Along with improving planet, Sunlight Solar Energy is also committed to improving our neighborhoods through community outreach, education, and charitable home building. Since its inception, Sunlight Solar Energy has been donating its labor to install PV systems on homes for community housing projects. Our goal is to install at least one charitable home system per branch per year .

Habitat for Humanity Project - Blakely South, Bend, OR
Our Oregon branch is in the process of installing 18 solar electric systems as a partner with Bend Area Habitat for Humanity between 2009 & 2010. Each of the homes is designed with passive solar elements, radiant floor heating, and conforms to the Oregon Dept of Energy’s High Performance Homes standard. As of September 2009, we have completed the solar electric systems on six of these homes located in the Blakely South Development (pictured right). The remaining homes are currently being built in the Parkway Village Development. You can read more about these projects here.
In Connecticut, our largest branch, we have installed at least one charitable home project per year. Every year, we donate our labor to the Yale Building Project. This unique project constructs a new home every year designed by the Yale Architecture Students. The home is built in nearby New Haven, CT in an area for community housing. The buildings are chosen for their energy-efficient designs and are donated to a local family in need. Sunlight Solar Energy has consistently provided the labor for the integrated solar electric systems on these homes for the past 4 years.
